Rtnn: Bangladesh Cricket Board expects star all-rounder Shakib al Hasan to continue in his role as captain in all formats upon his return from finger injury and contesting the upcoming National Election.

BCB’s cricket operations committee chairman Jalal Younus while speaking to the media at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium Tuesday pressed that Shakib is still the national team's long-term captain in all three formats.

The discussion has been triggered after Shakib expressed desire not to lead Bangladesh in One Day Internationals following the conclusion of the World Cup last month.

The left-arm all-rounder before travelling to India for the world event hinted of bringing an end to his tenure as the ODI skipper after the flagship tournament.

Shakib is still our captain. We have given the captaincy to Shanto [Nazmul Hossain] for just two series against New Zealand,” said the BCB official.

Shakib has been away from cricket since the World Cup due to the fractured index finger and in his absence, top-order batter Shanto was entrusted with the responsibility to lead the team in all three formats.

Left-hander Shanto first captained Bangladesh in the two-match Test series against the Kiwis at home and is set to lead the side in the ODI and Twenty20 series against the Black Caps in New Zealand.

“As you all know, Shakib was given the captaincy for long-term. He is still our long-term skipper in all three formats. Whenever Shakib returns, we expect him to be the captain. There is no scope for any questions if he will remain as the skipper in all formats. We consider him as the captain,” the BCB director explained.
