Rtnn: At least 671 leaders and activists of the Jatiya Party's Dhaka metropolitan unit have resigned, citing grievances against party Chairman GM Quader and General Secretary Mujibul Haque Chunnu.

The public resignation was announced at a press conference held at the National Press Club auditorium on Thursday.

Leaders and activists from various police stations in Dhaka, including Hatirjheel, Sherbangla Nagar, Mohammadpur, Adabar, Pallabi, Mirpur, Badda, Rupnagar, Darus Salam, and Cantonment, participated in the press conference.

Presidents and general secretaries under these police stations voiced their concerns, emphasizing the need for the resignation of the general secretary of the party.

Shafiqul Islam Sentu, former presidium member of the party, expressed dissatisfaction with the current leadership, adding: “Both the chairman and general secretary have fallen into a trap. The resignation is a response to their perceived failures, and we are urging GM Quader and Mujibul Haque Chunnu to step aside.”

The group claims support for Ershad's ideals and vows to move forward under his banner.

Jahangir Alam Pathan, the party's central vice-president and former member secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan North, read out a written statement at the press conference.

He criticized the party leadership for selling party seats to the Awami League in exchange for concessions and accused GM Quader of dismissing dedicated leaders arbitrarily.

In light of the situation, the group announced its public resignation from the troubled organization led by GM Quader, expressing a commitment to unite and uphold the spirit, motivation, and ideals of Ershad in the near future.
