Rtnn: The Election Commission (EC) has initially approved the transfer of 47 upazila nirbahi officers (UNOs) for the smooth completion of the upcoming 12th National Parliamentary Election.

Election Commissioner (EC) Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath confirmed this information on Monday.

“The EC has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Public Administration regarding the transfer of these UNOs,” he said.

The commission has directed the Public Administration Ministry and Home Ministry to send the list of UNOs who have been in their current workplace for more than one year and officers-in-charge (OCs) of Police Stations who have been in their current workplace for more than six months to the commission.

Ashok Kumar Debnath said: “The full information on such UNOs and OCs may reach the EC by December 5. As far as is known, there could be around 270 UNOs and 320 OCs who have been in their current workplaces for six months to one year.”

 
“Now the list of 47 UNOs has come. The committee approved their transfer,” he added.

Earlier Election Commissioner Md Ahsan Habib Khan said: “If any election-related officer neglects his duties and behaves in a biased manner, immediate legal action will be taken against him subject to proof.”

 
“The commission has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against those who violate the election code of conduct. We want a free, fair, peaceful and acceptable election. Election Commission will take all measures for this," he added.
