Rtnn: Bangladesh women’s football team outplayed visiting Singapore once again with a thrashing 8-0 victory in the capital to secure the two-match FIFA friendly series quite comfortably.
In form Tahura Khatun and Rituporna Chakma scored twice each while Sanjida Akhter, Sabina Khatun, Matsushima Sumaya and Shamsunnahar Jr added one apiece.
Tahura, who struck a brace during the 3-0 win in the first encounter Friday at the same venue, decided to quit football recently but then had a change of heart and has now come up with a couple of splendid performances.
The 20-year old striker looked vibrant from the beginning and rattled the woodwork in the third minute after Sabina’s initial effort was blocked.
Tahura created a good chance for Sabina a minute later but the skipper volleyed over.
Sabina had another opportunity in the 11th minute but this time it curved wide.
The deadlock was finally broken just after the quarter hour mark when Tahura pushed home from close range, sending Masura Parvin’s headed pass into the net.
Rituporna was not at her best initially but recovered quickly to double the lead with a tap-in from a yard away following a goalmouth scramble after Sabina’s corner.
Tahura tripled the advantage in the 24th minute, placing home on a rebound after Rituporna’s shot was blocked by the Singapore goalkeeper.
Three minutes before the break, Tahura tried her luck from just outside the box but the hat-trick opportunity flew inches over the bar.
Rupna Chakma along with the defence had very little to do mostly but the keeper from Rangamati made a decent save in the 14th minute.
Sanjida exhibited her skills through the right side to split Singapore defence on a few occasions but could not get the goal until the 57th minute.
Soon after her perfect finishing was disallowed for offside, Sanjida found the net on a rebound after Tahura was denied by the netminder while converting Rituporna’s low cross.
Riruporna grabbed her second of the day in emphatic fashion, smashing into the top corner from the left side after dancing past her marker at the edge of the 18-yard box.
Sabina hit the back of the net with a side footed shot following a low cross from Shamsunnahar Jr who came off the bench a minute earlier along with Sumaya as both made immediate impact.
Sumaya bagged the seventh goal with a thumping right-footed volley before the other super sub Shamsunnahar Jr completed the rout in stoppage time.
Saiful Bari Titu kept the squad unchanged from the first match while Singapore made four changes in the starting XI but were unable to stop the ruthless hosts.
