Rtnn: One of three Malaysian police officers suspected of abducting and torturing a Bangladeshi journalist has been suspended from duty.

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the two remaining officers might also face similar disciplinary measures, Malaysian media quoted Kuala Lumpur police chief Allaudeen Abdul Majid as saying on Friday.

Speaking at a press briefing, Majid said: "We are awaiting further developments as the case is (also) being investigated by the Selangor police. As for the Kuala Lumpur police, we have taken action by suspending the policeman concerned."

The Bangladeshi journalist in question, who chose to remain anonymous and is in his thirties, had claimed to be subjected to beatings, caning, stomach kicks and having his hands bound for three days. 

The perpetrators, claiming to be policemen, demanded a ransom of RM1.9 million (approximately Tk4,48,34,495) for his release while holding him captive in a house in Klang, Selangor.
