Rtnn: Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) celebrated a momentous occasion as 2,349 graduates were awarded their degrees during the university's 24th Convocation.
The grand ceremony took place on Wednesday at the prestigious Bangabandhu Bangladesh–China Friendship Exhibition Centre in Purbachal New Town, near Dhaka.
The event was graced by the presence of Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni, who conferred the degrees on behalf of the President of Bangladesh and the Chancellor of Universities Mohammed Shahabuddin.
In her address, Dr Dipu Moni emphasized the importance of a dynamic and adaptable education system, highlighting the need for students to continually enhance their skills through short courses and diplomas.
The Convocation Speaker, Bangla Academy President Selina Hossain, encouraged graduates to persevere through life's challenges, as their path may not always be straightforward.
She inspired them to become stronger and more resilient with each obstacle they overcome.
Chairman of the IUB Board of Trustees Abdul Hai Sarker reminded graduates that their connection to IUB goes beyond their time as students, as they carry the university's legacy and impact into the world.
Meanwhile, Nilufer Zafarullah, Chairman of the Education, Science, Technology, and Cultural Development Trust (ESTCDT), applauded the graduates for their achievements in academics, sports, and extracurricular activities, which have brought pride to IUB.
Vice Chancellor Tanweer Hasan, PhD, stressed IUB's commitment to contributing to the national pursuit of Vision 2041, promoting sustainable development and building a "Smart Bangladesh."
Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmed Khan delivered a vote of thanks to conclude the event.
The 2,349 graduates included 1,860 from the undergraduate level and 489 from the graduate level.
Notable awards were presented to high-achieving students, and outstanding performance in extracurricular activities was also recognized.
The ceremony brought together IUB trustees, parents, guardians, faculty members, and officials, culminating with a cultural event featuring popular singers Kona and Pritom.
The event was a celebration of both academic excellence and the vibrant student community that IUB has nurtured.
